Meynert, Theodor Hermann (1833–1892), Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist. Meynert was a professor of psychiatry and later of neurology at Vienna. He was an early advocate of the use of minimal restraint in asylums for the mentally ill. He is credited with classic descriptions of several structures of the brain. Collected in book form in 1868, they included the first description of interneurons.
